May highlights ...

Time yet again to highlight a layout (or two) from amongst our May vintage / shabby chic entries.

How pretty and delicate is this lovely page by Mary - that patterned paper just screams "old fashioned wallpaper" to me!

And this amazing mini album from Gocchi is simply gorgeously vintage ...

You still have a couple of days in which to submit an entry and be in the running for some great prizes - we'd love to see your interpretation of our challenge this month.

May team training ...

Welcome to our latest edition of Team Training brought to you this month by myself, Jane Howden.

Each month one of our team will inspire you with a little tutorial, tip or trick to help you in your scrapbooking pursuits.

This month I just wanted to share with you a very quick and super easy way of creating lovely cards - truly this could not be easier !

Use masking tape and ink to create your card background

What you will need ...

Masking tape
Glossy white photo paper
Water based inks
Stamps and stamp block
Cardstock for card base

Tear off a strip of masking tape and ink it up .
Place your inked tape over your glossy picture paper.
Repeat using different ink colours.
Place a piece of scrap paper over the strips and  press down.
Start peeling your tape strips off your photo paper.  Do this slowly to avoid tearing (holding down the photo paper while you pull masking tape helps).
Let ink dry fully.
Use your  image stamps to complete your card and mount onto cardstock.
You can add other embellishments if you prefer.

Why not give this a try !

Don't forget to have your entry in for our challenge this month. Some lovely prizes on offer - one prize by vote, another completely by random draw and a guest designer spot to offer one lucky entrant. You have until 11.55 on the final day of the month to have your submission linked. Please remember we only accept combining our challenge with a sketch challenge.

Our May guest ...

Please welcome our guest designer for this month, Kylie gW with her simply stunning take on our inspiration image for May.

I loved the softness and feeling of the inspiration photo - a love for a mother or motherly love; highlighted by the flowers and the touches of pink and yellow. And then I just went a bit mad on the 'shabby chic' theme with lace, papers, swirls and curls, stitching, and bling!!! I used a photo I don't think I've scrapped before with me in my little baby high chair but switched out the roses for one of mum's (and my) favourite flowers - the camellia, also a couple of birds for our shared love of bird watching. When it gets closer to Mother's Day I will create a card based on this page and give it to Mum.

Hi. I've been digi scrapbooking for a few years now, been around the online comp' traps and love it cause I now have total control over everything that goes on my pages. If I can imagine it, now I can create it. Plus it enables me to keep a record of what I'm doing, what I'm passionate about at this point in time, and share my love of digi and scrapbooking, as I usually make my pages look as much like a handmade page as possible, rather than go down the Photoshoped page look, which means alot of drop shadows and lots and lots of layers. I use Adobe Fireworks (formerly Macromedia Fireworks) to create my pages cause the file sizes are smaller and program works smoother than Photoshop, but that's just my personal preference. I do have formal training in digi programs from years ago that I still draw on today.

Welcome May ...

This month we thought we might have a change of pace and try our hands at creating our layouts in a vintage or shabby chic style. Our image is a nod to a Mother's love since we do celebrate Mother's Day here in Australia during May but really this month it is all about the style rather than the photograph. That doesn't mean you can't be inspired by our lovely picture - you can certainly use the colours, or the theme or the use of flowers / lace / ribbon for your entry.

CRITERIA - Vintage or Shabby Chic style

And this is how our team was inspired ...

REBECCA

KAREN
Shabby chic is a style that I feel I never get quite 'right' but I have made a Mother's Day card for my Mum, with muted colours, distressed edges, doily, stitching and velvet trim.

DI
This month I've completed a vintage style layout using a photo of my family (mum, siblings, partners and self ) taken at a reunion in the late seventies.

ELAINE
A card for my Mum.

LYNNE
I was inspired by the soft colours, old-fashioned clothing and overall vintage feel; this is a photo of my great-great grandparents.

PHILLIS
I loved this inspiration photo. I used an old photo of my grandparents. I tried to make it look vintage.

 SHAZZA

 JANE
Inspired by the pink, yellow and brown tones of the image and thinking of my Grandma.

Hope you can come and join in with our challenge this month, we need more of you playing along with us and winning some great prizes.  Please remember we only accept combining our challenge with a sketch challenge.

Please upload your entry to the link tool on the LEFT by 11.55pm on May 31st.

We can't wait to see your pages.

Please come back on the 8th when we will announce our winners for April.
