And then it was March ...

Gosh!  March already?

Looking out my window as I type I can't help but think how appropriate the image we have for you this month really is.  It is very dull and wet here on the NSW coast.

What do you see from this photograph?  The rainbow is obvious, but perhaps you just see the grey sky and rainy day.  A trip to the lake or seaside?  Sightseeing along a coastal road?  Perhaps this image reminds you of a particular place you visited or would like to visit someday.  Whatever the inspiration we would love to see your take.

Here is what the design team made of it ...

I love this picture to work with. I used impasto on an old piece of paper, did masking and then all colours of the rainbow to mist. Then I used inka gold colours to highlight each colour, lots of messy fun.Embellishments are sequins and a die and washi tape. It was a very fun page to do.

I am still slowly making progress on my son's baby album, so I took this month's inspiration photo and used it to add on! I chose to keep the page simple since there were so many colors going on it. The title uses one of my favorite vellum techniques. I print open letter words on vellum, color the back side with alcohol ink markers and use the extra vellum edge to wrap around white paper creating a sleeve. This way when I adhere it the tape can't be seen, then I simply cut and glue down!

From this month's inspiration photo I've taken the rainbow's colours, the glimpse of water and the luminescent  appearance of the whole scene. I've used the rainbow colours for my background paper... gesso, ink sprays, distress stains; then added an overlay of mauve coloured vellum, to achieve the misty, rainy look. There's also stamping on tissue paper (under the vellum) as well as stamping on top and some Kindyglitz streaks to represent rain.

This rainbow inspiration picture reminds me about the Cornish Coast.  I have had this  altered photo  of the Bottalack Mine for a while and I thought the colours on it would look great with a rainbow. I used Dylusion spray with mist of water on all the colours except yellow, which is Tattered Angels Lemon Zest.

I was drawn to the rainbow and used layers of paint to create a background for my photo of my daughter on a family holiday to a tropical island many years ago.  I can't believe this sweet little creature is 21 this month - how the time has flown.
