Welcome to our October Guest ...

This month we welcome Irit Shalom as our guest designer with her wonderful layout based on her interpretation of our image for October.

This is my layout made with the Big Ben clock inspiration. I was inspired by the clock to make a layout about time. This is my living room vintage style clock photo I used for this page and I made it in a Mixed Media look with Canvas Corps products, mists, Tando and Stencil Girl stencils, gel medium and inks. I made the title as "All you need is time" and this is really what we all need to live our life in the best possible way.

My name is Irit and I am an Israeli designer and scrapbooker. In my real life I am a working dentist, a wife of a retired high police officer, Mom of 4 grown- up kids and a grandma of an adorable 4 year old boy and 2 year old girl. I am an addicted crafter since I can remember, but for the last 5 years I have moved to paper crafting and found my real crafty love. I am most versatile in both styles and kind of projects and it moves from scrapbooking and cardmaking to Mixed Media and altered art, OOP projects and even jewelry making. Right now I design for 15 American, British, Norwegian and Australian companies. In the past I designed for like 20 more manufacturers and shops all over the world. I am a staff member for Scrapbooking.com web magazine and Create web magazines. My work was print and web published dozens of times in Israel, USA and UK magazines in the last 4 years.  I hope to inspire my readers with my versatile crafty style and invite you to visit my blog.

Here are some more examples of my work ...

Thank you so much for guesting with Pixels and Paper this month Irit - so pleased you could join in with us.

You have until the end off the month to play along with our Pixels and Paper challenge.  We'd love to see how you are inspired by our photograph.  Thank you for your continued support.

Next week we have something special to share with you from a member of our design team.  Please call past on the 22nd for some Team Training.

and our random draw winner is Renee Johnson with this totally delightful double page.

And October comes knocking ...

Welcome to another month and a new challenge here on Pixels and Paper.  As always please find inspiration for your page from our inspiration photograph.

Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and often extended to refer to the clock and the clock tower although the tower is now officially known as the Elizabeth Tower (formerly the Clock Tower). The tower holds the second largest four-faced chiming clock in the world. The tower was completed in 1858 and had its 150th anniversary on 31 May, 2009.

This month may be all about clocks or time for you - in the telling of a story or the use of embellishments and images. Perhaps this photograph conjures up memories of  travel to London or other parts of the UK or maybe you just love the bold use of gold and wish to replicate that on your own page.

Whatever your inspiration we would love to see your take on this photograph - please share your work with us this month.

Our team has some really wonderful and varied takes on the inspiration this month ...

Di Hasthorpe is taking a short break from our team due to some personal health issues.  We all wish her a full and speedy recovery and hope she is back amongst us very soon.  I would like to welcome Deb McCleary who guested with us back in June to the team and know you will be totally delighted with her lovely work.

DEB
My maternal grandmother was English, and as such was considered an 'alien' during the War Years in Australia - she was required to carry her Identity Card with her in public. The gold of Big Ben is represented throughout the layout.

ANNA
I was inspired of the big clock face and time. It is my hubby and me at the time we were new married and the second photo is last year, 20 years later... time flies!!

LYNNE
I just love clocks and am fascinated with the whole concept of "time"....this photo of my great-great grandparents and some of their children was taken around 1900 and made me think about how different our lives must be than theirs but how some things like love are timeless.

TONE-LILL

Big Ben can only mean London to me...
Using photos from one of our day trips to London when we had a turn on the London Eye... and of course it was London weather too ;)

KAREN
Sadly, I've never been to London... so I thought I would scrap a photograph of Brisbane City Hall and its beautiful clock tower. I also included some gold tones which I can see in Big Ben, and a clock embellishment, of course!

REGINA
As soon as I saw the Big Ben image I knew what photo to use. This is my Great Uncle and a Sailor Friend in London during WWII. I used Co-ordinations cardstock and sanded it back to highlight the clocks. Also cut some of the clocks out for embellishments. Added some stamping to the paper and some washi tape. Looking forward to seeing all your entries.

PHILLIS

I loved this big clock in the inspirational photo. I looked all over for some photos of time or of boys and couldn't find what I was looking for. So I chose this photo taken just before my kids left for their school trip to Europe.

JANE

I was inspired by time to create a time line.  I have used clock faces in my background stencilling as well as using time in my title.  I have used a lovely quote about time for my page and  incorporated the basic colour tone from the inspiration photograph to complete my layout.

NOW IT IS YOUR TURN ...

Please upload the DIRECT link to your actual entry to the link tool on the LEFT by 11.55pm on October 31st.

You are welcome to submit traditional paper layouts, art journals, divided page protectors, smash books (etc). Digital entries are welcomed and encouraged.  All entries must be new for this challenge and no back-linking please.

I am happy for you to combine with two other challenges but the essence of the Pixels and Paper inspiration must be clear in your work. Combining with a sketch and technique/product challenge would be preferred. Please include our inspirational picture as well as provide a link back to Pixels and Paper on your blog post and don't forget to tell us how you were inspired. International submissions are welcome.

This year we will have two main prize packs - one will be selected by Creative Team vote and the other purely by random draw - so anyone could be a winner, no matter your style or your level of experience.  All these prizes will be available to anyone, no matter your country of residence.  We will also offer one entrant a chance to guest with us for the following month and they will also receive a small prize.

Please come back on the 8th when we will announce our winners for September.

Welcome to our second September Guest ...

In place of our normal Team Training post I'd like to welcome Christel Overgaard as our second guest designer for September with her beautiful layout based on her interpretation of our image this month.

I have been inspired by the flowers and the diversity of the picture. I have used a lot of hearts and a photograph of a wedding couple in the family.

Hello! My name is Christel Overgaard and I live in southern Sweden near the sea. I am retired and love it. About 12 years ago I came into contact with scrapbooking and it has developed into a great interest and a wonderful hobby. I have a big family and it´s my big motivation when I do the layouts, I fill binders to all the children and grandchildren. Therefore, I mostly do layouts, but some cards will also be made when needed. I like to photograph, I am a member of a photo club and it is a good combination with scrapbooking.
I like to interpret drawings and pictures and participate in many challenges each month. I probably can ot say I have any particular style, but like to challenge myself with new things. I get inspiration by looking around at all the talented scrapbookers and websites.
I am so glad to be dt guest this month and hope that I can inspire others. Thanks!

Please visit my blogg http://titteovergaard.blogspot.se

Thank you so much for joining us this month Christel - it was lovely to have you with us.

You still have time to play along with our Pixels and Paper challenge this month.  You have until 11.55pm on 30th September and we'd love to see how you are inspired by our photograph.  Thank you for your continued support.

Welcome to our September guest ...

This month we welcome Carolyn Johnson as our guest designer with her delightful layout based on her interpretation of our image this month.

I was inspired by all the colours of the flowers in this month's photo. I found these pictures of my daughter and the colours in her jacket were a match.

Hello! My name is Carolyn and I live in Winnipeg, Canada.

I'm a mom to a fun four-year-old girl who gives me more than enough photos and topics to scrap. I began scrapbooking when she was born as a way to give myself a break and to document our family's journey. I just recently discovered scrapbook challenges and bloging and I'm hooked! I'm learning so much it is hard to define my style as I'm trying out all these new techniques but if I had to choose, paper piecing is my favourite so far.

Thanks for allowing me to be guest designer this month and the opportunity to try some new techniques.

Feel free to check-out my blog: http://ramblingsofawinnipegmommy.blogspot.ca/

Thank you so much for joining us this month Carolyn - so happy you could join in with us.

You have until the end off the month to play along with our Pixels and Paper challenge.  We'd love to see how you are inspired by our photograph.  Thank you for your continued support.

Next week we have something special to share with you from a member of our design team.  Please call past on the 22nd for some Team Training.

Christel Overgaard, our GDT winner from July will join us on the 26th of September with her take on this inspiration.

Well Hello September ...

and a warm welcome to Spring - you have been sadly missed.  We just had to celebrate here on Pixels and Paper with the arrival of September with flowers, lots and lots of flowers.  Aren't these just beautiful?

As always find inspiration from our photograph any way you wish.  Perhaps you will feel the pull of the promise of sunshine and blossoming growth and document flowers on your page.  Maybe you will use flowers are your main embellishment this month.  This photo may conjure up memories of fields of flowers or happy afternoons in the local park with family and friends.  It might spark a remembrance of a special flower from your childhood or an association with something floral from your past.

Whatever your inspiration we would love to see your take on this photograph - please share your work with us this month.

Our team has some really gorgeous takes on the inspiration this month ...

ANNA
I was inspired by the colors and flowers

LYNNE

I was inspired by the flower theme and by the vibrant yellow so I used this photo of the lovely daylilies in my yard.

REGINA

Here I took the inspiration from the field of flowers in the image. This photo was taken amongst the pyretheum fields in Tasmania. I'm sure you all have similar photos so get them out and join us in the challenge this month. Looking forward to seeing all your entries.

TONE-LILL

A beautiful flower inspiration this month, and I used a photo of my son (who took a well deserved rest in a meadow after a long day mountain hiking in the Switzerland alps) on this layout as the colours of the flowers in the meadow matches the ones in the inspiration picture.

We'd love to see your entry in our challenge and how you got inspired :)

PHILLIS
I was inspired by all the flowers in the photo. I wanted to make my background paper to be colorful like the flowers. I chose a photo from last Easter that had blues and oranges that stood out to me. So those are the colors I used. for part for the background.

KAREN
The inspiration picture brought a huge smile to my face this month. I knew straight away which photographs I wanted to work with. I love all kinds of flowers, and orange ones best of all. What I love most about gazania is that they are drought-tolerant and bloom year-round, so I don't need to wait till spring to enjoy them!

JANE
I was inspired by the yellow and orange and a memory of fields of flowers.

DI
I've used the inspiration of the colours of the flowers to complete this layout. Deep red glitter cardstock was used as a base. A stencilled background of flowers was added and then the framed photos. These are of myself and the gorgeous bouquet I received on my retirement.

NOW IT IS YOUR TURN ...

Please upload the DIRECT link to your actual entry to the link tool on the LEFT by 11.55pm on September 30th.
